Jeff is no hero – a slacker and a doper, he works security from the lobby of a Manhattan apartment building. His supervisor, William, is Jeff’s polar opposite – rigid, stern and a stickler for rules. When the two become drawn into a local murder investigation, relationships are strained, the facts become elusive and justice, if you can call it that, proves costly. Kenneth Lonergan’s comedic drama wants to know: what constitutes an ethical life? And what’s more valuable: loyalty or truth? A Public Fit’s season opener!

Painter Mark Rothko has just landed the biggest commission in the history of modern art: paint a series of abstract expressionist murals for New York’s soon-to-be-opened Four Seasons restaurant. For two years, Rothko works feverishly to complete the project, chasing inspiration, challenging public opinion and waxing philosophic on the state of modern art. But once his assistant, Ken, begins to brashly challenge Rothko’s theories and philosophies, Red becomes a masterpiece of artistic speculation: what does art mean? And what does it mean to be an artist? Winner of the 2010 Tony award for Best Play.

Emma Joseph, a recent law school graduate works tirelessly to uphold her family’s progressive ideals: fighting for liberal causes, denouncing totalitarian principles and founding the Joe Joseph fund, named for her once-blacklisted grandfather, a revolutionary socialist who refused to name names. As she now fights to exonerate a death row inmate being punished for his own radical beliefs, Emma discovers an inconvenient truth that threatens to upend everything she believes about her family’s past, challenging the very foundation of the activist ideology she’s devoted her life to.

Directed by Ann Marie Pereth

A family crisis brings three daughters home to Oklahoma to face their sharp-tongued, cancer-stricken mother in Tracy Letts’ 2008 Pulitzer Prize-winning dramatic comedy. The Weston family has issues: the patriarch, Beverly, a once-famous alcoholic poet has disappeared; the matriarch, Violet, is addicted to pain pills and “truth-telling”; their three daughters, Karen, Ivy and Barbara, maintain their own deep secrets and personal dilemmas. As compassionate as it is vicious, as funny as it is dense, August: Osage County is an instant classic – an intimate mosaic of a uniquely American family.
