Free Theatre for the Las Vegas Community

Free Staged Readings
As part of our efforts to give back to the community, A Public Fit offers quarterly free Staged Readings at the Jewel Box Theatre in the Las Vegas-Clark County Library. These readings are performances developed with roughly five rehearsals, in costume, with script in-hand. Free Staged Readings are part of our initiative to be a professional theater company that is also strongly community-oriented. Across town from our downtown location, the Public Library provides a venue that expands our audience-base to those who may not typically be able to attend a Mainstage production. We also offer a BUZZZ session afterwards to encourage patrons to have a voice and to share that voice in a creative and constructive manner. At A Public Fit we want to create conversations and empower our audience members to critically reflect upon their experiences.

Free Tickets for Underserved Students
A Public Fit is committed to making theatre more accessible, especially to students who are usually unable to afford to attend the theatre. For each Mainstage performance A Public Fit invites students to attend a full dress rehearsal so that they can see the production without having to pay the ticket cost. This ensures the students an intimate experience involving discussion afterwards. Often, these students return with family members because they wish to share their special encounter.

Be Connected! Become a Volunteer!

A Public Fit is always looking for energetic and passionate individuals who wish to contribute to the amazing work we do each season and expand their skill set. We rely on the wonderful support from our patrons, as well as the exceptional assistance we receive from our volunteers. A Public Fit also understands that it is difficult for students to gain useful work experience when they are still in the throws of learning their craft. Therefore, we cater especially to students who wish to expand their knowledge and skill set in theatre production. A Public Fit typically utilizes volunteers in Box Office, stage crew, light board operation, and sound board operation, with some occasional internship opportunities with designers.

A Public Fit Partners with Del Sol Academy of the Performing Arts

A Public Fit is excited to be partnering with Del Sol Academy of the Performing Arts this year!

Staff is working as educators, in conjunction with teachers at the school, to provide a program where students will utilize the thematic underpinnings of a variety of cultural stories and backgrounds to create theatrical productions. Students will provide educators with their own heritage stories; a script is written inspired by those stories, and A Public Fit staff is working diligently to help the students produce the show. Students learn all aspects of how to produce a theatrical show; including: acting, directing, stage management, and design. Two public performances will be held at Del Sol Academy on March 24th and 25th, 2017 at 7pm for both performances.

This partnership is a result of the generous Arts Learning Project Grant from the Nevada Arts Council.

Be a Part of the Conversation!

The BUZZZ

After each staged reading and production, A Public Fit hosts The BUZZ – a discussion of the play, its themes, imagery, history and impact. The BUZZZ offers an insightful dialogue between the audience and the artists involved, and is integral to A Public Fit’s dedication to creating opportunities for audience participation and interaction.
